Golf Honoree: Thomas P. Sullivan

Thomas P. Sullivan is the former owner and president of Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Homes in Monroe and Highland Mills, N.Y. and the former owner and president of William F. Hogan Funeral Home in Highland Falls, N.Y. Both have become staples in their communities. 

Community is important to Sullivan, who is a parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish in Monroe. His is currently chairman of the Town of Monroe Ethics Committee, chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners for Monroe Fire District, board member of the Orange County Fire Advisory Board, and board member of Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, where he served as chairman from 2001 to 2003 and chaired the capital campaign to build the Hospice Residence. He is also a member of the New York State Fire Chief's Association, the Fire Association of New York, and the Orange County Volunteer Fire Association. He is also a member of New York State Funeral Directors Association and Orange & Rockland Funeral Directors Association.

In addition, Sullivan is past president of Monroe Architectural Review Committee, past chief and past president of Mombasha Fire Company in Monroe, former vice president of the Orange County Fire Museum, past chairman of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, former board member of the Community Foundation of Orange & Sullivan, and former board member and past chairman of Make-A-Wish of the Hudson Valley.

Sullivan lives in Monroe, N.Y. with his wife, Janet M. Sullivan. His son, Daniel, is married to his wife Jana and has twin sons, Austin and Max. Sullivan's daughter, Jill, is married to her husband Yianni and has one son, Christian. 

 

Messenger

Tennis Honoree: MaryKay Messenger

Newburgh native MaryKay Messenger is a well-known soloist throughout the Hudson Valley region and beyond. She is the premier vocalist for the United States Military Academy Band in West Point and first sang with them at age of 12. She continued as a guest vocalist with the band until she joined the Army in 1996.

Messenger's singing career has been vast and diverse. She played Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, and the First Lady in The Magic Flute with the Amato Opera Theatre in New York City. She has also sung with the Irish Tenors, Frank Patterson, John McDermott, Sylvia McNair, Gary Sinise, and the Boston Pops under the direction of Keith Lockhart, and she sang the National Anthem for Bruce Springsteen's "Stand Up For Heroes" concert at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. 

Messenger has also made her mark on the world of sports, performing at Game 3 of the 2015 World Series and singing "God Bless America" for Game 1 for the 2009 World Series. She has sung at Madison Square Garden for the New York Knicks, at Radio City Music Hall for World Championship Boxing, and at Yankee Stadium for a multitude of games, including the 2011 Subway Series. Additionally, Messenger is often highlighted in Army football halftime shows.

The singer supports Hudson Valley Honor Flights, Play for Your Freedom, Castle Point, and Montrose Veterans Facilities, where she was honored with the 2019 Spirit Award. In 2017, Messenger was honored with Orange County Women of Achievement and the Presidential Volunteer Awards for her service throughout the community. 

Messenger received her degree in Business Management from Mount Saint Mary College and received the college's Distinguished Alumni Award in 2010. She studied voice with Walter Blazer from Manhattan School of Music and Phyllis Curtin of the New England Conservatory. 

She resides in Milton, N.Y. with her husband, David, and daughters, Emma and Grace.
